Mystery Dinner Theater

Spence and I got to finally go on our second date since the accident! My best friend Christine got tickets for the 4 of us to attend a Mystery Dinner Theater at Kate's Restaurant. None of us had been to this particular dinner theater so we weren't sure what to expect. The awesome thing about this place is that they grow a lot of the food on the property so it's fresh and so good. While we were eating dinner, a cast of 4 people put on a show for us. It reminded me of the game Clue. They left clues throughout the show and did a lot of interacting with us. We then had to figure out who the murderer was. It was hilarious and we had a great time! The best part of the evening was when one of the actors said, "the Master Baker" and Rob who misheard that blurted out, "DID HE REALLY JUST SAY THAT." That started him into laughter that could not be contained. The problem is that I am every persons giggle partner. Therefore, I got the giggles too and neither of us could stop. It was so embarrassing especially when Rob took a drink of his water while I broke into laughter again and he spewed it everywhere. Our lack of social appropriateness ended up being a highlight throughout the rest of the show. At the end when we were asked to write down our answers and reasons, one of the guys wrote that he thought Rob was the killer. He proceeded into all his reasons and we all just laughed and laughed. I haven't laughed that hard in months and it felt really good.

Mikayla's Surgery

This morning Mikayla went in for surgery to remove the other half of the mole on her head. Two years ago they biopsied it and it came back abnormal but no cancer cells had formed. The doctors said it could stay that way forever or had the potential of changing to melanoma at any point. I got really tired of digging through her hair to keep an eye on it. Plus, if it changed, I'm not sure I would know.
The surgery went well and hopefully the lab will show no changes and we can be done with it. However, she does have a new one on the bottom of her foot that they are worried about. They don't want to biopsy it until after summer to avoid any infections.

Spencer wanted to go down with her this morning which was a good thing. I was sure that I could handle it after everything I've been through but last night I wasn't so sure about that. Once the anesthesiologist starts talking about putting my child out, I about go out myself.
Mikayla only had to stay in the hospital for 2 hours and was itching to get out of there. So, now she's home resting and begging for ice cream.

Mikayla's 3 staples.

The dog was excited to snuggle her.

The Formal Evening

Last night I attended my first Quinceanera. The evening was a formal event for one of my Young Women named Krischelle. This is a coming of age ceremony for girls turning 15 in the Latin culture. Her parents are from Mexico and this tradition was continued with Krischelle here in the US. The night started at 8:00 p.m. and went until 12:00. Krischelle was beautiful and it was a very special birthday for her. My friend Angela and I had a blast and got a little punchy at the end. Typically, our bed time is well before 1:00 in the morning. I'm feeling the exhaustion today but had too much fun to complain.

Pictures

I know there has been a little bit of confusion on the pictures. Paul, the family picture at the beginning was from last year. All other pictures are current.

Fourth of July

We love the 4th of July in our house!! All of our friends left on vacation so we celebrated alone this year. This morning, Spencer took the girls swimming at our gym. The hope was for Spence to get a work out in before hand but the child center closed early. They swam for about 3 hours and had a ton of fun. I chose to stay home and get some things done around the house. Summer is always more difficult to keep the house clean when everyone is home. Besides that, I get to have some peace and quite for a few hours, which has been desperately needed.

Later this afternoon, I worked with Spencer on some honey-to-do items. I can't even begin to explain how wonderful it was to see him doing things that at one point we thought might never be again. How grateful I am for the simple things in life!
We left at 8:00 to attend the City of Thornton fireworks show! We LOVE fireworks! We went to some fireworks last night at a neighborhood close to ours. They do a good job for a small community. We have a very special place that we park in every year and it saves us a lot of time exiting at the end. We always go down to the field where all the vendors and performers are because it is the best place to be when the fireworks begin. This year, the lights went off at 9:30 and we all looked to the sky for some sky divers. It was incredibly awesome to watch! At first all you saw was one sky diver with fire coming off the back and then BOOM 4 more erupted with fire. They circled above twirling and swirling. The main sky diver was in red, white, and blue and carried the American Flag. I kept waiting for the flag to go up in flames since it was behind the fire. But, thankfully it did not catch fire. The four divers landed right in the middle of the field where we all sat. Can I just say....WOW! Right as they landed, the music and the fireworks started. I always get so emotional at these fireworks. This year it was for two reasons. The first was because I had my husband sitting next to me holding my 6 year old on his lap. The next reason is the same as every year, I am so grateful to live in a free country! The fireworks went for almost 30 minutes and a few times we thought the finale was already happening.

After we got home, we did some fireworks in the driveway with the girls.

Greta found the fireworks to be quite smelly

Our dog "Chewy" is really a cat in disquise. She is afraid of everything and has been since we got her. Since fireworks have been going off in our neighborhood, she runs and hides. This picture is under Greta's bed.

Happy 4th to all of you!
